Particulates: The Candle Shop

A long, white taper, smelling vaguely of jasmine is the only item I sell. Lying like dead soldiers in decoupaged boxes, each candle presents a decision to its prospective buyer.

“Do you have the courage to light the dark?”

For eons, our eotls has seen the sun and moon slip through the silken sky like lovers. Then, slowly, achingly, the spinning stopped. Our world grew hot, devastating everything. We yearned for the coming night.

Our scientists calculated its approach and called it “the forever night.”

So, I sell only candles.

Only one per customer.

Let it burn to the end.
