My usual “uniform”

Daily prompt: If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

One of the things I’ve seen floating around productivity and rise-n-grind discourse is the idea of creating your own “uniform” to wear everyday (ala Zuckerberg or Jobs) to take one of the unimportant decisions off of your plate, allowing for more cognitive energy to be put toward the BIG decisions.

I don’t fall for the fact that picking out a cravat is the sole cause the Internet wasn’t invented in the early 1910s, BUT, I know that having the same outfit almost every day does make the process of “presenting as a functioning adult” that much easier.

I teach in real life, and by the middle of the semester, my students have discovered a possible pattern – a solid color tunic or t-shirt, jeans, interesting socks, sneakers. That’s it. I will occasionally rock a humorous shirt, but those are only for special events. Giving up any notion I have for fashion has saved angst if not time and I’ll never look back.

To be fair, I try not to always wear the pink shirt on Monday or similar, because there’s such a thing as too much repetition. But, if there’s every a compilation video of me walking into class wearing the tunic and jeans saying “Hey! How are ya?” (which I’m apt to do), I will repost it here with pride.

For me, what I wear isn’t a top-of-mind priority, but that doesn’t mean that’s correct. I admire people who spend time on their wardrobe and aesthetic. I’ve known some amazingly dressed people. I appreciate them, but I don’t need to be like them.

Different brains, different choices. So for me, I’m good with the same thing every day, as long as it’s comfortable.

You look incredible, by the way. 🙂
